THE SHORT HISTORY OF PROJECT YELP 2001 - 2004

Yelp

Yelp project was developed by Blue Brother Image Sampling from 2001 and 2004. Last time was the project preposed to Gouden Gids NL (GG) (a part of the World Directories owned by VNU - now "Nielsen")

URL www.yelp.nl and yelp.be (yelp.com was at that moment in the possesion of an private person - a dancer and was suggested to Gouden Gids to buy it)were registrated on 2001-03-08 and later sold to GG.

1. Purpose of Yelp

  • Delivering better environment (services) for users and clients.
  • New “brand/place” Yelp, is adapted for Internet as new media /place /space.
  • As a new “meeting place” is more;
    -Useful
    -User friendly (several entrees for different groups/tastes...)
    -Richer (visuals, sounds... appeals on emotions....)
    -Trustful (updates, differentiates between clients, interactive)
    -Allows extra services, (voting or star system, exchange of
    information between users, fun, broadcasting, surfing miles...)
    -Feedback is essential

2. What is reward for user?

  • Extended choices, better comparisons and personal response.
  • Trustful service. The “environment” understand what user needs. User is part of community. “There are people, managing my needs.”

3. Why NET?

  • Natural environment for services/in depth extended information about clients.
  • Users get links to client’s quality and they can learn/choose more about them before contacting them. Increases the competition, which delivers better services for users.
  • It forces clients to occupying “space” and delivers better presentations. Allows expending of services for GG.

4. What is the style of Yelp?

  • Monitor approach - visual approach.
  • Monitor, especially on the first layer is visual medium and not reading environment. Yelp in not a database, it is “TV” based on database.

5. What is the strongest point/basic idea of my approach?

  • Creating a meeting space/place between users and clients
  • Yelp is web space/place managed by GG. It is web of information, arranged so, that user can reach them easy and with approach, he wants. Yelp is GG own “media” in today terms.

Client wants to be seen at your place, because people are watching Yelp!
